Write an inequality for the given statement: The sum of x and 25 is less than 75.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

An inequality means there's not an equal sign. Instead there will be a greater than (>) or less than (<). Pretend the symbol is a mouth. The mouth wants to eat the biggest number. Sum means to add. So x + 25 < 75 is what they want. If you wanted to solve this, you just subtract 25 from both sides of the inequality. That gives you that x < 50. So if you add numbers that are less than 50 to 25, you'll always end up less than 75.

thanks but they want you to write it, not solve it.

Ok. But soon they'll be asking you to solve them so I just thought I'd give a short explanation. It's always good to learn things before they teach you it. You learn it better that way.

thanks alot
