The sum of two numbers, x and y, is 12. The difference of x and two times y is 6. What are the values of x and y?

x - 2y = 6

-x - y = -12 (result of multiplying by -1)
x - 2y = 6
----------add
-3y = -6
y = -6/-3
y = 2

x + y = 12
x + 2 = 12
x = 12 - 2
x = 10
