Which literary device is used in the following sentence? Ira was sitting in the shade because it was more than 90F in the sun, which beat down with a fierce vengeance. 1. Simile 2. Metaphor 3. Alliteration 4. Personification

Please help me!!!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Charlotte123?

OpenStudy (charlotte123):

Not a simile ~ There is no like or as ~

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay..I think it might be a metaphor. Is that right?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Or personification...because the sentence sort of gave the sun human qualities.

OpenStudy (charlotte123):

Why do you think it's metaphor?

OpenStudy (charlotte123):

Can't be alliteration ~

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Because they were expressing the sun's heat with vengeance. And a metaphor is a word or phrase given to an object when it isn't really applicable.

@kelliegirl33

OpenStudy (charlotte123):

Ah I see! Give me a sec ~ This is confusing >.<

OpenStudy (anonymous):

(>.<) Okay. Thanks!

OpenStudy (charlotte123):

No problem! I'm thinking it's personification ~ Vengeance is the act of doing something to hurt someone because that person did something that hurt you or someone else.

OpenStudy (charlotte123):

It's giving the Sun human qualities ~ Don't ya think?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes, that is what i thought

OpenStudy (charlotte123):

I'm gonna go with personification :D

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I think I will get one more persons imput, if you don't mind. I think it is personification also, i just have to get this right though. @bookworm00981

OpenStudy (charlotte123):
