USA certainly tilted more toward the sun in the summer. I think I read that Earth is a bit farther from the sun at that time, but I am not sure.

The Earth is divided into Northern and Southern Hemispheres. The Northern Hemisphere is tilted away in the winter months and towards in the summer time. Why the Southern hemisphere is so warm is because during its summer its closer to the sun as the Earth rotates around the sun, but during the Northern Hemispheres summer its farther away from the sun so it doesnt get as hot.
