Help with question do not understand

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yea i know what is it the thing is i dont understand how to do it in this situation can you tell me step by step ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Start with the function T(x) = (x-2)^3 + 8. The derivative T'(x) = 3(x-2)^2 Set 3(x-2)^2 = 0. This means that (x-2)^2=0. Take square root of both sides. So |x-2|=0. This means x = 2. So T(x) turns at x = 2 because that's where it's derivative (slope of tangent) is flat. If you put x = 2 into the original equation T(x), you get a temperature of 8.

I think that's how to do it. So the substance changes from a solid to a liquid at 8 degrees .
