You are playing a game with your friends, Alex and Jeff. The first player who rolls a total of seven using two number cubes gets to start the game. Explain how to find the probability that you will roll a total of seven on your first try.

OpenStudy (kirbykirby):

You can enumerate all possible dice permutations that you can potentially get (your sample space). Die #1 has 6 sides, and so does Die #2, so you get 6x6=36 possibilities. Now, you think of the number of way you can get 7: Let (D1, D2) be an ordered couple denoting the number on Die 1 and 2 respectively: (1, 6) (2, 5) (3, 4) (4, 3) (5, 2) (6, 1) Since there are 6 ways to get 7 out of a possible 36, the probably of rolling "7" is 6/36 = 1/6
