OpenStudy (anonymous):

Why do plants wilt? The gases stop moving through the xylem and phloem. The veins become broken and cannot support transport. The roots release chemicals that break down the stem and leaves. The cells do not have enough water in them.

OpenStudy (forevershorty):

The main reason why plants wilt is because of diseases. The wilting of plants may also be caused by plant dehydration, over watering, too much sunlight and the use of excess fertilizer on the plants. It is characterized by the loss of rigidity of non-woody plants.
