Why was terraced farming such an important development for the Chavin and later Andean cultures? Terraces allowed farmers to plant crops on mountainous terrain. Terraces made it easier for land to be divided among many sons. Terraces had a religious significance to the cultural elite. Terraces made it possible to separate different kinds of plants.
