Solve the system below and identify the shape of the graph of the equation. x^2+y^2+2x+2y=0 x^2+y^2+4x+6y+12=0

OpenStudy (shamil98):

I was doing this one the other day.. solving it algebraically was such a pain ..

OpenStudy (shamil98):

They are both circles.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh no :(

OpenStudy (shamil98):

In the end I resorted to wolfram, mostly cause I was not able to solve the system algebraically ... lol

OpenStudy (anonymous):

do you know how to do any of the math? my teacher will give me a 0 if i dont show any work so i just need something to write down :p

OpenStudy (shamil98):

I've tried substitution.. You could try elimination

OpenStudy (shamil98):

Nvm, elimination won't work either.. hm

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeah i just tried that one right now and didnt get anywhere

OpenStudy (shamil98):

The solutions are (-2,-2) and (-1.2, -2.4) but I have no idea how to get there lol.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

hm... do you know of any other methods to try?

OpenStudy (shamil98):

No, time to call in for the more experienced people @dan815

OpenStudy (anonymous):

hopefully we can figure something out :o

OpenStudy (shamil98):

mhm
