Hey I just found this site. Can someone let me know how this works. and Why do people answer questions for people?

Yep! On Open Study, you can choose to view feed-like lists of questions, that people with subject specific questions, post. Any user can answer any question, and as a general rule, try to guide them to an answer, and teach- not just tell them ;)
You earn "Smartscore" points eventually by having you answer's chosen as "best", and with activity on the site. You can accumulate medals, given by other users when they choose your answers as best- this means you're helping! :) just post questions, answer questions and make learning friends in the subject-specific chats that are more or less social niches. Enjoy... OS.

So do you get anything for the Smart scores?

Umm, you get an updated color of screen-name and different "titles", but not money, free stuff or capabilities on the site. It's just sort of an ego thing. Experienced users have more points, naturally, and are green or purple, whereas beginners are orange or yellow. Lol, you'll notice a lot of teachers that help kids on this site are purple and green.
