There are at least half a dozen possibilities.
But I think the expected answer at 1st-level French would be the equivalent of
'I speak to my teacher'

But the first thing that came to my mind is "I speak about my teacher" lol

However the most direct one would still be "I am speaking to my teacher", so you are right :)
