WHAT IS 3/4-1/6?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

When subtracting and adding fractions, we must have common denominators (the bottom number of the fraction), so we need to find a number that 4 and 6 go into. Let's use 12, because 3*4=12 and 2*6=12. Since we have a common denominator, we must now multiply the numerator (top number of a fraction). So, ((3*3)/12) - ((1*4)/12) = (9/12) - (4/12) = ((9-4)/12) = (5/12)
