The Sun unevenly heats the minerals in a rock, causing the rock to break. This is an example of _____. a) chemical weathering B)biological weathering C) physical weathering D) erosion

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I will define each type of weathering and you choose which one suits your question. 1. Chemical weathering: Weathering is caused by chemical substances. For example: hydrochloric acid is a great chemical weathering for calcite type mineral. 2. Biological weathering: Normally caused by biological organism such as a decomposer. Involved mostly organic materials. 3. Physical weathering: Weathering caused by external forces such as water, glacial ice, tectonic movement, human activity and many more. 4. Erosion: Normally involve in displace of material or alteration of materials from its original position. For example; soil erosion caused by exposure of soil surface to rain.

The answer would be C because heat and the breaking of the rock can be the result of physical weathering, and the other answers would not make sense. Biological weathering would be the breaking down of the object due to a form of life (incorrect answer), erosion is the carrying away of something (incorrect answer), and chemical weathering would be changing the identity of the substance(incorrect answer).
