One of the main points  is that the universe is governed
by "cold equations", and is "unconcerned" with our feelings or morality, unable to be altered by our politics or our wishes. No allowance was made in case a stowaway gets on board! Not only are the laws of the universe cold and unbending, so was the law calling for the ejection of stowaways.
Also, security was too lax. This draws a parallel for this reader with passenger security in failing to block the hijackers that attacked the US on 9/11/2001.
