When did they talk about religion for these civilizations?!  Anyways, I know that they had many gods that they believed in and they believed that sacrifices were soemthing that they believed was what gods liked.  Hold on, I made a slide show for Mrs. Fields saying all the gods.

Human sacrifice is relatively common in many ancient societies but the Aztecs performed it on a more lavish scale than the other two groups. http://philtar.ucsm.ac.uk/encyclopedia/l... One important thing to note is that, unlike in many modern societies religion and state was not separated in ancient societies. The political leader of a state was often its spiritual leader as well.

Religion played a significant part in the lives of the Mayans, Aztecs, and Incas. It
was used in gatherings, sports, meals, etc. An important part of their religion
was human sacrifice in order to please, honor and respect their gods.
