What is the connection between resonance and valence bond theory?

vbt (valence bond theory) assumes that all bonds are localized bonds formed between two atoms by the donation of an electron from each atom, which is similar to resonance, which is just sharing of the electrons on atoms, or showing the electron bevahior and how it spreads about atoms, delocalization of the electron.
