Your class is selling gift wrap for a school fundraiser. One fourth of the money collected will be used to pay for the gift wrap. Your class wants to raise at least $675 after paying for the gift wrap. How much money does your class need to collect?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Let x = money collected Then 1/4 x = money used to pay for gift wrap and x - 1/4 x = money left over after paying for gift wrap We want at least $675 (i.e. ≥ $675) left over. So we set up inequality. x - 1/4 x ≥ 675 Multiply both sides by 4: 4x - x ≥ 2700 3x ≥ 2700 Divide both sides by 3 x ≥ 900 So class needs to collect at LEAST $900.
