For thousands of years all over the world, people had enslaved other people for a variety of reasons. C. There are no records of slavery before the early 1400s when the Portuguese reached Africa. D. It began in Europe in the Middle Ages and spread to other parts of the world from there.

jigglypuff314 (jigglypuff314):

might be B because it is a more general response... A. http://debate.uvm.edu/dreadlibrary/mclean.html C. records of slavery -> Roman (200BC... something like that) therefore false D. "began in Middle Ages" false because Roman empire was before that

OpenStudy (lovelyanna):

Lol, ok, ok :P Which is not an accurate description of the West African kingdom of Songhai? A. It was a prosperous trading region. B. Around the year 1000, its rulers converted to Islam. C. Its wealth came from trading its silver and opal for slaves from North Africa. D. Most of its people continued to worship the old Songhai gods.

jigglypuff314 (jigglypuff314):

B and D contradict each other, so if you prove that one it wrong, the other would be correct. http://africa.mrdonn.org/songhay.html "Their religion was Islam"

OpenStudy (lovelyanna):

Ok, thanks :) .. lets see

jigglypuff314 (jigglypuff314):

"Songai’s first Muslim ruler called Kossoi took power in 1009AD" http://www.ruperthopkins.com/pdf/The_Kingdom_of_Songhai..pdf so B

OpenStudy (lovelyanna):

Mhm.. I see

OpenStudy (lovelyanna):

And your sure then answer is B?

OpenStudy (lovelyanna):

the*

jigglypuff314 (jigglypuff314):

oh wait, "not" so D since B was proven to be correct ;)

OpenStudy (lovelyanna):

Oooh, right! D it is! =D

OpenStudy (lovelyanna):

Last one?

jigglypuff314 (jigglypuff314):

sure :)

OpenStudy (lovelyanna):

Yay! Thanks Which is an accurate description of the West African kingdom of Benin? A. Its people were fierce warriors, clever traders, and skilled brass makers. B. It was a trading empire along the Songhai River in what is now Mali. C. The people of Benin built a magnificent capital city at Gao. D. Its most famous ruler was Mansa Musa.

OpenStudy (lovelyanna):

I don't think its D..?

jigglypuff314 (jigglypuff314):

http://www.ijebu.org/benin/ niger river so not B only mention of Oba person? so not D I would say A

OpenStudy (lovelyanna):

What about C, is that one wrong?

jigglypuff314 (jigglypuff314):

idk... A or C read this http://www.historyworld.net/wrldhis/PlainTextHistories.asp?ParagraphID=evw

jigglypuff314 (jigglypuff314):

B. It was a trading empire along the Songhai River in what is now Mali. C. The people of Benin built a magnificent capital city at Gao. I think these two are related... like Songhai people built Gao and Benin is a different topic... they have museums of Benin stuff... so I still would go with A... (you might want to ask for a second opinion?)

jigglypuff314 (jigglypuff314):

I'm a go sleep now, good night ;)

OpenStudy (lovelyanna):

Thanks :) Gn!

OpenStudy (anonymous):
