Which letter has rotational symmetry

OpenStudy (skullpatrol):

Any ideas?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

H Q G A

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i think its G

OpenStudy (skullpatrol):

When you rotate it the meaning of the letter does NOT change.

OpenStudy (skullpatrol):

Are those the answer choices?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

um maybe H

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes

OpenStudy (skullpatrol):

"H" looks right to me :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thank you want a medal???

OpenStudy (skullpatrol):

doesn't matter, but you deserve one for trying so hard :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

wanta help me with the next one

OpenStudy (skullpatrol):

sure, I can try

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Which letter has rotational symmetry?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

P F Z W

OpenStudy (anonymous):

im pretty sure its W

OpenStudy (skullpatrol):

But it turns into an "M" remember what I said "when you rotate it the meaning of the letter does NOT change."

OpenStudy (anonymous):

well it couldnt be N because it turns in to Z.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

wuld it be p because it never changes

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no wait F cause P turns into D

OpenStudy (skullpatrol):

You need a precise definition of "rotation."

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no lol

OpenStudy (anonymous):

its F i no it

OpenStudy (skullpatrol):

Why?

OpenStudy (skullpatrol):

What convinced you that you are right?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

because when you rotate it. it dosent turn into nothing else right??

OpenStudy (skullpatrol):

By "rotation" they mean turn half-way around, now consider "Z", does it change?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes into N

OpenStudy (skullpatrol):

that is only 1/4 of the way around

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh wait no its still Z because you said half way so that means it goes 180 degrees

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so it will be Z. dang im so confused

OpenStudy (skullpatrol):

That is why I said you need a precise definition of what is meant by "rotation" This is true in all of math, definitions make us less confused about meaning.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yah lol i guess but it would either be Z or F

OpenStudy (skullpatrol):

I would go with "Z"

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok thank you so much your a big help

OpenStudy (skullpatrol):

Thanks for asking :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no problem
