What policy did the United States adopt toward the Philippines after the Spanish-American War? (3 points) Select one: a. The United States granted the Philippines independence but reserved the right to intervene in the nation if U.S. interests were at stake. b. The United States suppressed a Filipino independence movement in order to retain control of the islands. c. The United States provided military and economic support for the government in its fight against a rebel group. d. The United States used its military presence in the Philippines to force European powers to grant open access to trade with the islands. I put A and I got it wrong

OpenStudy (anonymous):

well i found this info on another persons openstudy so i copied this info :Unfortunately, the answer is the second one, that the United States suppressed a Filipino independence movement in order to retain control of the islands. After the Spanish-American War, the US acquired the islands from Spain (who lost). However, during the War, the Filipinos declared independence from Spain as a republic. But the US didn't see it that way and considered the Philippines as their territory. When the Filipinos attempted to assert their independence through arms, the US brought in their military and after about a year or so, it was over.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ohh... That sounds right actually!
