The sum of three consecutive numbers is twelve less than six times the lowest number. What are the three numbers? A. 3, 4, 5 B. 10, 11, 12 C. 2, 3, 4 D. 5, 6, 7

OpenStudy (phi):

three consecutive numbers (as you might guess from the choices they give you) means numbers that are "next to each other" if you call the smallest one x, the next one up is x+1 and the 3rd one x+2 so the numbers are x, x+1 and x+2

OpenStudy (phi):

sum of three consecutive numbers is twelve less than six times the lowest number sum of the numbers --> x+ (x+1) + (x+2) is --> = twelve less than --> -12 + six times the lowest number ---> 6*x put that all together x+ (x+1) + (x+2)= -12 +6x can you solve for x ?
