Show your work to prove that the equation y = 12x + 8 correctly represents the function for the data in this table.

OpenStudy (isaiah.feynman):

Substitute the values of x into the equation and see if they produce the same y values shown in the table.

OpenStudy (isaiah.feynman):

Okay, for the first one, the table says when x is 0 y would be 8, lets substitute 0 for x and see if y becomes 8 in the equation.\[y=12(0)+8\]\[y=8\]See y is indeed equal to 8 when x is 0. Use this sample to do the rest.

OpenStudy (disco619):

It's pretty Easy. First take the equation: y = 12x + 8 Now let's substitute the "x" values from the table and if the corresponding "y" value comes in the end. That means the equation correctly represents the function for the data. I won't give the Answer, as there would be no point in "studying" then. But i'll do one for you: y = 12x + 8 (take the first 'x' value and substitute: y = 12(0) + 8 y = 0 + 8 y = 8 (see, the table shows that if the value of 'x' is 0, the 'y' would be 8) Do the same with the rest... :)
