A beach has to enclose a rectangular area, because some endangered species are nesting there. They have 200 feet of rope to rope off the area with. What is the maximum area that they can rope off?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The 200 feet will be the perimeter, so divide that by 4, being each side. 200÷4=50. Take 50 times and that will be your area. Answer= 2500 square feet.

OpenStudy (disco619):

So a Rectangular is a Quadrilateral which means it has 4 sides. Now that we have 200 feet of rope, we will divide the rope in 4 parts. \[\frac{ 200 }{ 4 }\] = 50 [Rope length of one side] To find Area of a Quadrilateral we use the equation: length x width In this case... Length = 50 Width = 50 that means... 50x50 = area of of beach we can cover with 200 feet of rope. \[= 200 feet ^{2}\]
