Determine ALL options that solve the equation: -5x+y=1

OpenStudy (anonymous):

chooses are: x=0 y=1 x=-2 y=9 x=-1 y=-4 x=-5 y=-24 x=1 y=6

OpenStudy (kc_kennylau):

plug them all in to see if they end up being 1 :)

just substitute a value for x from one of the options and see if the corresponding y value agrees with that given in the options. for instance the first option. plug in x=0 into the equation -5(0)+y=1 so y=1, this agrees with the first option (x=0 y=1). so you know it is correct. You can do this for all the options. also a quick way of eliminating options is by looking at the signs, if x is greater than -1/5, y must be positive (by the rearranging the equation (y=1+5x)
