Just add -5 + 1 to get 4 and you have x - 4/2x
so its not x^2 ?

Well since we are adding , the denominator is not affected. x + x is 2x and -5 + 1 is -4 therefore, the solution is (2x - 4)/2x\[\frac{ 2x - 4 }{2x }\]
