An archer's arrow follows a parabolic path. The path of the arrow can be described by the equation y=-0.005x^2 + 2x + 5. a. Describe the meaning of the y-intercept of the graph of the equation. b. What is the horizontal distance the arrow travels before it hits the ground? Round your answer to the nearest foot.

When x is zero y=5 meaning that the arrow started its journey 5 units above the ground. To find where the arrow hits the ground set y equal to zero and solve for x. Since y is the height you would set it equal to zero. Solve for x using the quadratic formula

Omg thank you sooo much

OpenStudy (anonymous):

You'll get two values for x. One is negative but obviously that cannot be the answer since the arrow isn't traveling backwards

You are so right
