A ball drops vertically from a height of 16 feet. Each time it hits the ground, it bounces up 35 percent of the height of its previous bounce. Assuming the bouncing goes on forever, find the total distance it traveled by the ball.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

s = 16 {1 + 0.35 + (0.35)^2 + (0.35)^3 + (.35)^4 ...)] If I recall correctly the infinite series in brackets equals 1/(1-0.35)= 1.58. Does seem to be the power law expansion of 1/(1-0.35) Can be looked up. Ans. becomes s 24.62.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes. Is expansion an of 1/(1-x0.35).
