OpenStudy (calculusxy):

Solve for z: -22 - 5z= 20

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Try adding 22 to the other side then divide that number by -5

OpenStudy (anonymous):

z= -42 over 5

OpenStudy (calculusxy):

I did do the addition and I got -2. Then should I divide -2/-5=0.4?

OpenStudy (calculusxy):

@Directrix @jim_thompson5910

OpenStudy (calculusxy):

Why don't u have to add -22 to 20?

OpenStudy (calculusxy):

I mean like why do you add positive 22?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

1. Add 22 to both sides (to 20) 2. -5z=42 4. z=42/-5

OpenStudy (anonymous):

You add 22 because in the equation, it is -22, so you do the opposite.

OpenStudy (calculusxy):

Oh ok. Thanks:)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

If it was positive 22, you would subtract it from 20.
