A 50g body hangs vertically at the end of a string. A horizontal force of 20g pulls the body. What is the tension of the string? Solve graphically. Draw forces to scale

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The tension will be the vector addition of 50g vertically (a) and 20g horizontally (b), so make a right angle with 50g and 20g as the sides, and the hypotenuse (c) will be your tension. c^2 = a^2 + b^2 to get length of c and confirm from scale of your drawing, 1 unit = 1g.
