Write an equation of a line in slope intercept form

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Write an equation of a line in slope intercept form that is perpendicular to the line 2x -3y = 12 and passes through the point (2, 6).

OpenStudy (anonymous):

y=2x-12/3 so the slope is 2/3 then the slope perp to it will be -3/2 and eqn for that will be y-y1=m(x-x1), all you have to do is put the points

OpenStudy (anonymous):

2x - 3y = 12 -2x -2x -3y = -2x + 12 -3y/-3 = -2x/-3 + 12/-3 y = 2/3x + (-4) y = 2/3x -4

thanks

@victoria_davis_2018 can you explain why you subtracted?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeah sorry it took me so long I was talking to my aunt. I subtracted to reverse the process and to reverse the process and get something by itself you have to do the opposite of what the problem is doing do you understand?
