WILL GIVE MEDAL! Write an equation given these properties: An ellipse with vertices (0,-5) and (0,5) and a minor axis of length 8

OpenStudy (anonymous):

How do I know this is right @b87lar ?

OpenStudy (b87lar):

Well, first you could plug in the two points (0,-5) and (0,5) to verify they satisfy the equation. You can also verify that the length of the minor axis is 8 (since the minor radius squared there is 16 and the axis length is twice the radius). And finally, the major radius is sqrt(25)=5 which means the length of the major axis is 10. If (0,-5) and (0,5) are the vertices, then the major axis length must be 10 -- that is also true indeed (twice the major radius 2*5). Let me know if you have questions.

Oh ok I get that! Could you help me on some more? There are a bit different, but the same unit

OpenStudy (b87lar):

Sure, just post it.
