Please help. The perimeter of a basketball court is 288 ft the width of the court is 44 ft less than the length. What are the dimensions of the court?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

288=2x + 2(x-44) The xs represent the length, and x-44 represents the widths. There are 2 of each because we are solving for perimeter. So if we simplify this equation, we get 288=4x-88. Add 88 to each side; 376=4x Divide by 4; 94=x So now we know that the length is 94. Subtract 44 and you get 50 as the width.
