In the United States there are many jobs that require a person to be bilingual. Which second language is most useful for employment?

Spanish, and in some cases maybe French. Spanish is the other most common language so that would be your best option.

Chinese and Hindi are useful too, I think it depends on what the job is/who the job deals with
German and maybe Portuguese too
Russian will probably become more and more useful to know in a few years
but Spanish is probably the best bet
