A theodolite refers to an instrument which is used for surveying and is mostly used for geodetic engineering. It consists of a pair of graduated circles that are positioned in right angles to one another. The primary use of this instrument is to measure vertical and horizontal angles although, it measures horizontal angles more accurately than vertical angles.
