Let us first take a point (x , y) on parabola and now we will find the distance of this point from the given point (0, - 4)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

And we equate it with distance from point (x,y) to directrix y = 4

OpenStudy (anonymous):

sqrt ( ( x - 0)^2 + (y + 4)^2 ) = |y - 4| Apply sqrt on both sides and simplify which gives u the equation of the parabloa :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

x^2 + y^2 + 8y + 16 = y^2 - 8y + 16 x^2 + y^2 + 8y + 8y + 16 - 16 =0 x^2 + y^2 + 16y = 0 should be ur answer :)
