-3x-1 + x = -23
what are the asnwer options?
6
Really need the problem worked out.
that is wrong.the answer is x=6 and x=-4
first you multiply -3 by 6 and you get -18.then subtract1 and you get-19 then subtract 4 and you get -23
Okay , so we are being taught to add variables together first -3x + x =
ok -3x+x=? first if your adding them -3x+x would equal -2x correct?
Yes
ok then you would find out x.which in this cause you would try 6
Okay,
so 6*-2 =-12 correct?
yes
ok then subtract 1 from the equation
oh i made a mistake.if it is the final answer you need then it is -11
so what i would do to make it easyier is first subtract 1 from both sides of the equation\[-3x-1+x=-23\]
\[-3x+x=-24\]
\[-3x+x=-2x\]
\[24\div-2=12 -2x \div-2=x\]
so x =12
does that make sense @HelenMary2
so nevermind -11 the final answer is 46 but to make sure im gonna ask a friend to look at it
@CGGURUMANJUNATH
Kind of thank you
no problem.if you need anymore help just ask ;)
\[-3x -1 +x = -23\]
Okay, so here's some help, thanks to an algebra calculator. Simplifying -3x + -1 + x = -23 Reorder the terms: -1 + -3x + x = -23 Combine like terms: -3x + x = -2x -1 + -2x = -23 Solving -1 + -2x = -23 Solving for variable 'x'. Move all terms containing x to the left, all other terms to the right. Add '1' to each side of the equation. -1 + 1 + -2x = -23 + 1 Combine like terms: -1 + 1 = 0 0 + -2x = -23 + 1 -2x = -23 + 1 Combine like terms: -23 + 1 = -22 -2x = -22 Divide each side by '-2'. x = 11 Simplifying x = 11
Thank you
Exactly what I needed . Thank you.
