!!! One Medal Question!!! Name two ideas and two theories that can be compared and contrasted

OpenStudy (tanya123):

@SolomonZelman @Luigi0210

OpenStudy (tanya123):

@StudentLeatn

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Two ideas and theories of what, @tanya123? :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Free will and determinism capitalism and socialism justice and mercy genetic vs environmental determinism

OpenStudy (tanya123):

so @douglaswinslowcooper if I take the big bang theory then with what can I compare it with? and what are "idea" ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The most interesting comparison to big bang theory would of course be religion. a very easy thing to contrast & there are also some similarities(:

OpenStudy (tanya123):

religion ? which ? plus is religion a theory?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes, religion is a theory. And id go with Christianity just because its easiest

OpenStudy (tanya123):

ok, can you give me one difference or similarity ? because I don't want to do anything wrong especially when its dealing with religion!

OpenStudy (tanya123):

@r0z3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ahh! i gotta go to work, but if i have time afterwards ill come up with something for ya

OpenStudy (tanya123):

thank you ! and please do =)

Tanya, I think the Big Bang is evidence of the Creation of the Universe by God. Others see it as a start that does not require a creator.. You could work with those two viewpoints. Good luck.

OpenStudy (tanya123):

you mean the ones you wrote above ? @douglaswinslowcooper

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I mean the idea that the Big Bang shows Creation, thus a Creator, versus the idea that it shows something can come from nothing and there need be no Creator. Evolution is a theory that has some evidence. However, some evidence favors the belief in Special Creation, the creating of species rather than having them evolve.

OpenStudy (tanya123):

so compare big bang with creation? @douglaswinslowcooper

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Actually, I'm pretty sure The Big Bang Theory is what Christians do not believe. TBBT is the theory that the universe originated sometime between 10 billion and 20 billion years ago from the cataclysmic explosion of a small volume of matter at extremely high density and temperature. Basically, that means the universe was created from an explosion which occurred naturally. Christians believe that God created the world in 7 days (although he rested on the seventh). :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

As a Christian, I do not take all the Bible literally. Many do not. Those are two viewpoints you could contrast. I believe the Big Bang shows the act of creation. As a scientist, I know that the details of the universe are such that tiny differences in the critical constants would have prevented the formation of the universe and of life. It is too "fine-tuned" to be chance. I cannot argue the whole issue here, but I do believe in God as Creator. What His purposes are I do not know.

OpenStudy (tanya123):

Ok, I decided not to chose the Big Bang... Can you give me two other theories besides this one because its really confusing really! I thought I would till @r0z3 would come back but... Wow your a Scientist !!! How Cool @douglaswinslowcooper

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Sorry! been crazy busy. So where are you at with this whole thing?

OpenStudy (tanya123):

Same place you left with... I still don't know if I choose the big bang then with what should I compare it with ?

OpenStudy (tanya123):

@r0z3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Some other compare/contrast ideas: Calling vs. Texting Reading a Book vs. Seeing a Movie One location, place or event vs. Another location place or event One person vs. Another (As in comparing two people) etc.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The big bang theory is very scientific (although its still just a theory), so it would only make sense that you compare it with something like religion. pick a religion you know most about.

OpenStudy (tanya123):

@r0z3 can you tell me another theory besides the big bang? because I really don't know about the big bang and also don't really want to do religion... I mean I actually would known what is the big bang theory, I would have certainly included a religion! Ok... Plus if you could just give me one difference and one similarity for the big bang and any religion then lets see...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Go research it. It's by no means a difficult thing to understand(: http://www.letu.edu/opencms/export/download/chemphys/BigBang.pdf http://www.school-for-champions.com/religion/big_bang_theory_and_religion.htm#.UrHWMPRDuuA couple interesting reads. & if you're trying to do this without having to learn anything new, I'd rather not be asked for help.
