Anyone know how to do this...

OpenStudy (mony01):

\[\log _{8}576-\log _{8}9\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

log to base 8 is the power needed to raise 8 to get the number in question. 576 = 8^n , where n is logbase8 of 576 use log base ten instead log(576) = 2.76 = n log(8) = n 0.903 n = 2.76/0.903 = 3.056 check 8^3.056 = 575.8 close enough etc.
