State the domain f(x)=x/(x^2-x-12)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

set the denominator equal to zero and solve for \(x\) then say "all real numbers except those two" do you know how to solve \[x^2-x-12=0\]?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I know how to solve it like that, but once again my teacher has done it differently. He factored the denominator and got(x-4)(x+3) and his answer is (-infinity, -3)U(-3,4)U(4,infinity)
