which of the following best describes the equation y=9x+6 A:nonlinear B:linear C:neither linear or nonlinear D:both linear and nonlinear please help

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

What do you think?

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

Can you eliminate some choices right away?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

What do you mean eliminate choices right away

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

Like exclude from being the answer, do you see any choices that are automatically wrong?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Neither linear or nonlinear

OpenStudy (anonymous):

or nonlinear

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

A can't be the answer, knowing what a linear equation is. B can be it. C and D can't be, becuase it can't be so, or not so at the same time.

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

See my point?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

its be then

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i mean b

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

Yes, B (linear) and E (please help)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no the please help was just a question for help

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

Ik, I'm kidding.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

hey just one more question please, sorry kind of new with this type of math

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

Okay, you can ask this one here, but next time, one question per thread.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay here it is: the table below shows a nonlinear function: x y 1 1 3 2 7 4 10 5 13 7 which of coordinates should be changed to (11,6)in order to make this a linear function?

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

lets take the columns and write them as equations. how about y=2x-1 see that everything fits into this besides the 4th column where it says x-10 y-5 how would you change that column to make it fit into y=2x-1?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

10/2 and 5/1

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

I kind of misread the question, it asks "which of the columns should be changed to (11,6)?" then it's pretty obvious right, tell me, which column should be changed into (11, 6) or into x y 11 6

OpenStudy (anonymous):

well i think the last column x =13 y=7 am i right?

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

no, because that column does fit into y=2x-1 because 13=2(7)-1

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the column x=10 y=5

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

YEP!!!!!

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

That's right!!!!!!!!!!!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

wait im right?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thanks i was really having trobule with this

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

Anytime, you just have to think of possible patterns when you see this type of questions. \(\huge\color{white}{\huge {\bbox[5pt,magenta,border:2px solid black]{YW!}}}\)

okay
