What is the practical use of defect equations? Take anti-frenkel \(CeO_2\): \[ \mathsf{CeO_2 = 2V_O^{\bullet\bullet}+2O_i^{\ "}+Ce_{Ce}^{\ X}} \] What use does this serve? And what is the point in having to specify an \(\mathsf{Ce}\) atom resides in a \(\mathsf{Ce}\) spot (I understand you're supposed to balance charge/site/mass, but this just seems redundant in practice)?
