What effects does cell differentiation have?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Cell differentiation allows for the cells derived from common source to develop specialized functions and perform a specific function. That way instead of all cells doing a common function the differentiated cells are specialised to carry on a specific function more effectively. Eg blood cells are specialized to carry oxygen and fight infections muscles are specialized to contract neurons are specialized to conduct impulses Source : http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20080414203700AAuKnaC
