What was the effect of moving the capital of the Empire to Byzantium?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

It moved the center of power to the East where the Eastern Roman Empire was facing many challenges but also sat at the crossroads of trade making it very rich. Rome was no longer as important as it used to be (it was far from the rich trading routes that the Byzantium was nearest to) and anyone who wanted to make a name for themselves would head to the new "center" of the world. The new capital at Byzantium (renamed Constantinople) became the capital of the Byzantine Empire as the West collapsed.
