I'm having to write an essay for English and its about Wuthering Heights and i am having a problem with it.  I dont get the prompt.   It is "Formulate a well-focused essay in which you present arguments against the relevance in today's society of the novel Wuthering Heights."   Can someone please explain this to me!?!?!?! :(:(:(:(:(

Okay, so basically it is saying that in the story "Wuthering Heights" the society is bad. So, you should look for the really bad things that are happening in the story's society and I guess try to say bad things about it, somehting that someone else would like to argue with you about.  This is confusing...

I dont know the story but it sounds like it has a dismal look of modern society, and since it tells you to argue -against- some of the authors ideas on todays society, and write how modern society differs from how modern society was envisioned in the novel ... not sure though

No, it is simply saying that some feel the piece is irrelevant to today's society. Wants you to argue that position.

Okay.  but do you mean that they feel it is relevant and that i am supposed to prove that it is irrelevant?  Because it says to go "against" the relevance.

Yes, argue that it is not relevant. Outdated, impractical, overly idealistic, what-have-you.
