Dustin had five outstanding checks that totaled $117.54. What should his check register balance be if he had an ending balance of $599.43 and outstanding deposits that totaled $235.14?

He had five checks that totaled $117.54 but he had a total of $599.43? I'm confused

I am too, that's why I posted it

Makes sense

lol

Outstanding checks are checks that have been written, but have not yet cleared the bank on which they were drawn. In the bank reconciliation, outstanding checks are deducted from the balance per bank.

so I subtract them?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I would say subtract $599.43 - $117.54 but that leaves the $235.14 so maybe you add $235.14 and $117.54 and subtract that answer from $599.43
