A 14 kg mass is resting on a horizontal surface. A 240 N force is applied to pull the mass along the surface. The coefficient of kinetic friction, k, between the mass and the surface is 0.5 and the coefficient of static friction, s, is 0.7 Weight=137.8 N Normal force=137.8 N Maximum Force used without the object not moving=96.04 N

What is the question?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oops... what is the force of kinetic friction?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The kinetic friction is -(0.5)(137.8N)= -68.9N opposed to the direction of motion. Since the force applied is 240N, much larger than this, we would expect the mas to be accelerated by the left-over force or perhaps the force is being applied at an angle.
