try and put in terms of one variable
such as
1st 5-a=b
3rd 7-a=c
put it into 2nd

b+c=-2 or
5-a)+(7-a)=-2
12-2a=-2 combining like terms
12-12-2a= -2-12 subtract 12 both sides
-2a=-14 divide by -2 both
a=7 then use this to solve for in first equation

then c
