"I Have a Dream" Main Ideas Assignment Instructions To complete this assignment, follow the steps listed below. You will only submit step 3 in the box below. 1) Revisit the notes you took when you listened to "I Have a Dream" earlier in this section. Identify the main idea of each paragraph in "I Have a Dream" and record them in your notebook. You should have between 15 and 23 one-sentence summaries of the main ideas totaling 300-500 words. Make sure you write key words that lead you to each main idea. Use the four step process you learned in the Main Ideas slideshow. 2) Examine these one-sentence main ideas and underline common ideas and themes. Each of these sentences contributes to a single, larger main idea that is the real point of the speech. Remember that your task is to work from the main ideas of each paragraph upwards towards the single overarching main idea of the entire speech. 3) Write your Main Idea Paragraph. Step 3 is the information that you will type in the box below and submit for grading. In 100-200 words, introduce the topic and speaker to your audience and then focus all that you have learned into a 40- to 60-word statement that concisely explains the overall main idea of the "I Have a Dream" speech. Be sure to describe the two-part structure of the speech as part of your explanation.
