First and second derivative tests? Please help!
I am having trouble with the differences between the first and second derivative tests. Would it be possible to take one function and use both the tests on it so I can see the difference? Please and thank you! :)
Hello, I__Love__Math, first derivative is used to consider whether the original function increases or decreases, and the points the graph changes on the specific interval. second derivative is used to consider the shape of original function whether its concave up or down and the points where its graph changes
Okay that makes sense. Can you please show me an example? :)
Like to find the relative extrema using both tests?
do you have a particular problem? pleaase give me a simplest one because I__Hate_Math, hehehe
Lol. How about x^3 + 9x^2 + 4x?
how about f'(x) =? and f"(x) = ? Please, do me a favor by calculating them
nope, that is not the case we should do, because the roots of f'(x) are not integer, pick another please
however, if you still want to do it. FINE
ok, no need to change,
Is f(x) = x^4 - 4x^3 + 2 okay?
f'(x) = 4x^3 - 12x^2 f''(x) = 12x^2 - 24x
