survival of the fittest kind of thing. some countries needed more materials to industrialize such as coal. European countries needed more natural resources after industrialization, which led to colonization of Africa and other countries for it's rich resources.

scratch that... industrialization is about building your country to better. like for example more factories etc. the imperialism part you are correct in.
